Chinese PV manufacturer GCL System Integration Technology (GCLS) has teamed with Vietnam-based OEM producer, Vina Solar Technology, to establish a 600MW solar cell plant in the northern province of Bac Giang.
GCLS would invest $32 million in solar cell production tools for the facility that would be built and operated by Vina Solar. This is GCLS’s first overseas solar cell production facility, according to pv-tech.org.
A large number of major China-based PV module manufacturers have established manufacturing and OEM production agreements outside China in the last two years in order to circumvent both EU and U.S. anti-dumping policies.
Another Chinese PV manufacturer, JA Solar Hongkong Investment, in late November 2016 started construction of a solar photovoltaic cell manufacturing plant in the northern province of Bac Ninh.
The firm will pour $320 million in the project in the first three years. Once operational, the plant will have an assembly capacity of 1.5 gigawatts and generate revenue of $500 million per year.
This is part of the firm’s plan to develop a solar cell manufacturing project that could have an investment of over $1 billion in the Southeast Asian country.
