Bac Ninh Province has identified developing support industries as a sustainable way to accelerate industrialization and modernization.
Increasing production value
Bac Ninh Province Industry and Trade Department Deputy Director Ta Dang Doan said the province currently had 358 support industry businesses which accounted for 10.1 percent of the total number of businesses and 10.9 percent of the production value of the local processing and manufacturing sectors.
Bac Ninh’s support industry businesses are capable of supplying products for large groups. For example, the Thang Long Packaging Production and Import, Export Joint Stock Company has supplied Samsung Vietnam with about VND300 billion worth of packaging annually over the past many years.
Support industry businesses have significantly contributed to Bac Ninh’s industrial growth. A provincial industry and trade department report showed that Bac Ninh’s industrial production value in the first quarter of 2016 reached an estimated VND145 trillion, a rise of 5.1 percent compared with the same period last year; the export value reached an estimated US$5.07 billion; and retail sales of goods totaled an estimated VND2.49 trillion.
Promoting support industries
Bac Ninh Province has attracted investment from the world’s famous multinational corporations in the field of electronics and telecommunications such as Canon, Samsung, Microsoft, Honda, and Toyota. The presence of specialized industrial manufacturers has helped Bac Ninh promote industrial development and support industries in particular.
The province expects that by 2020 its support industry businesses will be able to manufacture and supply most types of components and spare parts as well as maintenance and repair services for industries in Bac Ninh and neighboring provinces, and by 2030 they will be an important link of the global supply chains of large multinational corporations in the world.
To reach these goals, Doan said the provincial industry and trade department was setting up specific assistance mechanisms to promote support industries. These will include specific policies related to site clearance and administrative reform. The province will build a support industry research and development center on an area of 30-50ha.
The department has cooperated with Samsung Vietnam in training to help businesses restructure production and investment to join supply chains. Implementing Governmental Decree 111/2015/ND-CP regarding support industry development, Bac Ninh has applied policies that offer investors a lot of preferences such as financial support for technology transfer and human resource training. Research, technology transfer, and human resource training centers will be established to ensure sufficient manpower supplies for support industry businesses, first of all for those operating in the electronics and manufacturing engineering sectors.
Bac Ninh Industry and Trade Department Deputy Director Ta Dang Doan: Bac Ninh is undertaking research to establish industrial parks for support industry businesses. The province will support site clearance and infrastructure construction to attract investors. |
