The southern city of Can Tho has announced plans to build an information technology (IT) park in order to boost the development of the sector in the city and the Mekong Delta region in general.

The park will cover an area of 20.3 hectares, with initial investment estimated at nearly VND175 billion (US$7.7 million).
The plans for the IT park were announced at workshop held on December 6, by the Can Tho Department of Information and Communications and the Ministry of Information and Communications.
The park will be divided into different areas for software and digital content development, electronic device manufacturing and assembly, offices, conference centers and exhibitions.
A zone dedicated to IT human resources training is also planned within the park.
Do Hoang Trung, Director of the Can Tho Department of Information and Communications, said that the city expects to attract investment in the park from both domestic and foreign IT firms.
At the workshop, IT and telecommunications experts discussed the advantages of building the park and proposed measures to boost IT development in the Mekong River Delta region.
Currently many enterprises from Japan and the Republic of Korea are exploring investment opportunities in Can Tho, with a number of Korean companies planning to build a smart residential area in the city.
