Actively connected
Hai Duong has 162,000 hectares of cultivated area, including 21,000ha of fruit trees. Lychee is one of the major crops that yield a high economic efficiency, with an average output of 50,000 tonnes per year.
In recent years, Hai Duong has been actively involved in business connection events to find outlets for its farm produce. Provincial farm produce was showcased in 26 trade fairs/ exhibitions inside and outside Vietnam, including such giants as the Goodfood in Dubai (the United Arab Emirates) and the CAEXPO in Nanning (China). The province also coordinated with the Vietnam Gardening Association’s Central Committee to prepare plans for finding outlets for products from farms and craft villages.
Hai Duong held five seminars to promote sales of high quality lychees in Hanoi, Lao Cai, Ho Chi Minh City and southern provinces. As a result, a large amount of provincial lychees was distributed through such major local supermarkets as Co.opmart (55 tonnes), Fivimart (35 tonnes), Vinmart (30 tonnes), and Big C (25 tonnes). International farm produce exporters, big supermarkets and retail systems including the Best Kook, Sunny Mart and Chef Kawakami from Japan, and the CJ Group from the Republic of Korea (RoK) were in negotiation for production and sales. Hai Duong also attended conferences on promoting lychee exports to the US.
Stimulating trade promotion
Trade promotion for farm produce is being performed well in the Hai Duong Province. Key provincial agricultural products, including Thanh Ha lychee, Hoa Vang sticky rice, onion, garlic and other specialties of craft villages are widely advertised. Companies from Germany, Japan, the RoK, the US and some countries in the Middle East have contacted Hai Duong to purchase provincial farm produce.
Actively connected with business opportunities, Hai Duong’s agricultural products have become more competitive in the market, in both price and quality. The province will continue expanding its outlets for farm produce via leading trade fairs such as the ASEAN + China and the Vietnam-China International Trade Fair. Supply-demand connection seminars will also be held for farm produce (including lychee) in Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Lang Son, Lao Cai and other localities.
Hai Duong will continue working with the Management Unit of the “Export capacity building for Vietnamese small to medium-sized enterprises through local trade promotion centers system” Program funded by the Swiss government. The province will assist businesses to develop brands for their agricultural products while taking the initiative in production orientation for safe, high quality farm produce. It will also build close links with distributors to bring provincial agricultural products to supermarkets, trade centers and wholesale markets, as well as to strengthen and maintain relationships with partners, especially importers, heading to stable production and sales.
