Indonesia’s lifestyle retailer Mitra Adiperkasa will open a Zara store in Vietnam next year and many more in the years to come as it seeks to meet demand from the swelling middle class in the neighboring country.
Through its Vietnam unit, Mitra Adiperkasa plans to open stores for other brands such as Berska and Massimo Dutti also owned by Spain-headquartered fashion group Inditex, said a representative.
The company marked its entrance into the Vietnamese market on September 8 with the opening of a 2,400-square-meter store in downtown Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam’s busiest metropolis. The store is also its first Zara outlet outside Indonesia, according to Nikkei Asian Review.
It now operates 15 Zara stores in Indonesia. Apart from Zara, it also franchises other international brands such as Lacoste, Starbucks, Burger King and Topman in Indonesia.
Fast-fashion brands are popular in Vietnam, and Zara has a huge customer base here. Before the opening of the first Zara store, Vietnamese customers acquire its products by ordering online and having items brought in from overseas.
Meanwhile, Mango is planning to open a men’s store in Vietnam, and H&M is said to be considering expansion in Vietnam, according to Retailnews.asia.
