New hospital opened in Mekong

The Ministry of Health and its Department in the Mekong delta province of Vinh Long October 10 broke ground on construction of the Xuyen A-Vinh Long General Hospital aiming to meet the treatment demand of local residents.

The VND 850 billion (US$38,125,140) hospital was built on area of 40,000 s.q m with 10 floors including 25 wards. Dr. Nguyen Van Chau, general manager of Xuyen A Joint-Stock Company said that when the hospital will be put into operation, it will offer high tech services mostly focusing on surgeries on open heart operations, spine and brain surgeries.

These services could never carried out in hospital in Mekong delta before, therefore patients must be transferred to big hospital in Ho Chi Minh City causing the overloading in the city's hospitals.

Speaking at the ground-breaking ceremony, Head of Medical Examination and Treatment Department Professor Luong Ngoc Khue said that the state-of-the art hospital is expected to satisfy the residents’ treatment demand and help cut transferring patients to big hospitals to HCMC; accordingly, surgeons can make most of golden time to save patients, reducing death risk and costs of treatment./.
