The State leader made the request while addressing a ceremony on February 20 to mark 70 years since President Ho Chi Minh’s first visit to the province in 1947.
He recalled President Ho’s special care for Thanh Hoa Province’s Party committee and people, as well as the President’s visit to the locality on February 20, 1947, when the whole country had just entered the anti-French war. Holding talks with local authorities and people on that date, Uncle Ho expressed his wish that Thanh Hoa would become “an exemplary locale.”
Over the past 30 years, following Uncle Ho’s teachings, Thanh Hoa has exerted every effort to escape its poverty and underdeveloped status, rising into an economic, cultural, educational and training centre for the north-central region.
Hailing the province’s achievements over the past few decades, President Tran Dai Quang asked the locale to make sound investments in important infrastructure projects in such areas as traffic, electricity and irrigation, as well as those which can boost connection and cooperation within the north-central region while linking Thanh Hoa with other localities in the region.
The provincial authorities should give priority to boosting exports, modernising the agricultural and service sectors, building new-style rural areas, making good planning for tourism development, raising the quality of education and vocational training and developing science and technology.
President Quang also requested that greater attention be paid to reforming administrative procedures, enhancing Party-building, building a clean and strong political system, maintaining defence and security and reinforcing friendship and cooperation with Lao locales that share a border line with the province.
