Vietnam turns trade deficit in 2015 into trade surplus in 2016.
Vietnam has recorded a trade surplus in 2016 of an estimated $2.68 billion, according to Vietnam Customs, against a trade deficit of $3.55 billion in 2015.
Total trade in December is estimated at $32.3 billion, down 0.6 per cent against November. Export turnover was $16 billion, down 0.8 per cent, while import turnover was $16.3 billion, down 0.5 per cent.
The monthly trade deficit was $300 million, equal to 1.9 per cent of export turnover. In 2016 as a whole, total trade turnover is estimated at $349.2 billion, a year-on-year increase of 6.6 per cent. Export turnover was $175.94 billion, up 8.6 per cent, while import turnover was $173.26 billion, up 4.6 per cent.
Export turnover in December from mobile phones and components was $2.9 billion, down 11.4 per cent against November. Export turnover for 2016 was $34.51 billion, a year-on-year increase of 14.4 per cent.
Textile and garment export turnover in December was $2 billion, up 5.4 per cent against November. The figure for 2016 was $23.56 billion, a year-on-year increase of 3.3 per cent.
In December, export turnover in computers, electronic products and parts was $1.8 billion, down 4.5 per cent against November, with the 2016 figure at $18.48 billion, a year-on-year increase of 18.4 per cent.
Machinery, equipment, tools and instruments earned $1 billion in December exports, down 4.8 per cent against November. 2016 export turnover was $10.48 billion, a year-on-year increase of 28.4 per cent.
Footwear exports reached $1.25 billion in December, up 2.7 per cent against November. The annual figure was $12.92 billion, a year-on-year increase of 7.6 per cent.
Seafood exports reached $620 million, down 8.5 per cent against November. The 2016 figure was $7.02 billion, a year-on-year increase of 6.9 per cent.
Means of transport, parts and accessories earned $500 million in exports in December, down 13.6 per cent against November. Annual turnover was $6 billion, a year-on-year increase of 2.4 per cent.
Wood and wooden products exports reached $700 million, up 10.3 per cent against November, with the yearly figure at $6.92 billion, a year-on-year increase of 0.4 per cent.
Coffee exports recorded 160,000 tons in volume and $352 million in value, up 39.5 per cent and 41.6 per cent, respectively, in December against November. 2016’s exports stood at 1.8 million tons, up 33.7 per cent, and $3.36 billion, up 25.7 per cent.
Crude oil exports in December reached 630,000 tons, up 6.1 per cent, and $218 million, up 3.7 per cent. Exports for the year stood at 6.96 million tons, down 24.2 per cent, and $2.35 billion, down 36.7 per cent, compared to 2015.
