VAMA reports total sales of 162,515 motor vehicles in first nine months, up 31 per cent year-on-year.

Total motor vehicle sales during September reached 26,551 units, according to the latest report from the Vietnam Automobile Manufactures’ Association (VAMA), of which 16,327 were passenger cars, 9,117 were commercial vehicles, and 1,107 were special-purpose vehicles.
Passenger car sales grew 9 per cent against August while commercial vehicles were up 21 per cent and special-purpose vehicles 15 per cent.
The number of completely-knocked-down (CKD) vehicles was 20,566 units, a 17 per cent increase against August, while the number of completely-built-up (CBU) vehicles was 5,985 units, for virtually no change against August.
Sales therefore totaled 192,951 vehicles in the first nine months of the year, up 31 per cent year-on-year. Passenger cars totaled 123,358 units, up 30 per cent, commercial vehicles 78,743 units, up 31 per cent, and special-purpose vehicles 12,297 units, up 43 per cent.

In the first nine months CKD sales were 162,515 units, up 29 per cent year-on-year, while CBU units totaled 51,883, up 10 per cent.

A report from Toyota Motor Vietnam (TMV) revealed that by the end of the third quarter its sales stood at 39,034 vehicles for the year, an increase of 8 per cent (excluding the Lexus) year-on-year. Passenger car sales reached 19,784 units and commercial vehicles 19,250 units.
Taking the lead in the passenger car segment was the Vios, with 10,833 units, up 8 per cent year-on-year and accounting for 55 per cent of all sales in the segment.
Following was the Corolla Altis, with sales of 3,653 units, accounting for 18 per cent of the segment, then the Camry with 3,536 units, up 7 per cent year-on-year and accounting for 18 per cent of total sales.
In the commercial car segment, sales of the Innova reached 7,602 units and the Fortuner 8,514 units, up 7 per cent and 21 per cent, respectively, year-on-year.
The Innova and the Fortuner led the segment in the first nine months, accounting for 39 per cent and 44 per cent of total sales.
In CBU models distributed by TMV, in the first nine months sales totaled 4,896 units, up nearly 21 per cent year-on-year. In the year since it was launched in October 2015, 1,707 Hilux vehicles have been delivered to customers.
Toyota’s September sales stood at 5,103 units (excluding the Lexus), up 9 per cent, or 433 units, compared to September last year. Sales in the north were 2,314 units (45 per cent), the south 2,195 units (43 per cent), and the central region 594 units (12 per cent).
Sales in the passenger car segment for the month were 2,964 units, up 4 per cent compared September 2015. The Vios was in the lead, with sales of 1,612 units, 12 per cent higher than in September last year.
The Corolla Altis followed, with 742 units, an increase of 53 per cent against September 2015 and its highest monthly sales this year. Following was the Camry, with 483 units sold.
Sales of commercial vehicles reached 2,139 units, up 18 per cent against September last year. The Fortuner saw the highest sales volume in September, of 1,216 units, up 46 per cent compared to September 2015 and its best monthly sales result to date.
Due to limited supply, there were only 680 Innova 2016s delivered to customers in September, out of a total of 1,084 contracts signed with customers.
In CBU vehicles imported and distributed by TMV, sales of the Yaris reached 127 units, the Hilux 113 units, the Hiace 29 units, the Land Cruiser 19 units, and the Land Prado 82 units.
Lexus sales reached 1,340 units in the first nine months, up 73 per cent year-on-year.
Despite changes in tax policy for luxury motor cars with large engines that took effect on July 1, sales of the Lexus in September reached 90 units, up 61 per cent compared to September 2015 and 64 per cent against August.
