Vietnam graduates into large technology projects

Vietnam has built a crude oil tanker with a capacity of 100,000 tonnes. In implementing the ambitious project, scientists also successfully designed and constructed a 300,000 tonne dry dock at the Dung Quat Shipyard, the country’s largest dry dock ever. 

The hull cleaning technology, production of floor covering materials, welding materials and gravity welding rods are equivalent in quality and standards to imported equivalents and meet the needs of the shipbuilding industry.

According to experts, the project has brought the technological level of Vietnam’s shipbuilding industry to new heights, boosting its ability to gradually catch up with advanced countries such as the Republic of Korea and Japan.

The projects were presented recently at a news conference held by the Ministry of Science and Technology to highlight the success of local companies in creating new products with greater economic efficiency, and of engineering units in establishing their brands in the domestic market and abroad.

Another such project presented to the media involves the research, design and manufacture of main equipment for a rotary kiln cement production line with a capacity of 2,500 tonnes of clinker per day. Vietnamese engineers and scientists undertook both the design and construction of the project – whereas in the past, the country only undertook the mobilization of investment for such major projects and their preliminary design.

Vietnam’s growing ability to master and carry out such multi-faceted technological design and production is a source of greater economic efficiency, auguring well for the country’s future.

Deputy Minister of Science and Technology, Pham Cong Tac, said the ministry is implementing a number of other science and technology projects to promote the development of various sectors. These include manufacturing an autoclaved aerated concrete brick production line, exploiting multipurpose deep-water floating seaports, producing sponge iron, manufacturing auxiliary equipment for coal-fired thermal power plants with a capacity of 600MW, and producing drugs to treat cancer.
