Vietnam Treasures Relations with China: PM
Vietnam pursues a consistent policy of attaching special importance to its friendship with China and giving it a top priority in the country’s foreign policy, affirmed Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc.
PM Phuc made the confirmation at his meeting with Chinese Party General Secretary and President Xi Jinping in Beijing on September 13 during his official visit to China, the Vietnam News Agency (VNA) reported.
Japanese Fashion Retailer Miniso Enters Vietnam
Miniso, a Japanese retailing chain popular for affordable fashion and lifestyle products, opened three outlets in Hanoi Saturday, marking its official entry in Vietnam.
The stores are the first of 12 planned in the city, Ho Chi Minh City and four other cities and provinces this year, and 200 in the next five years, Vietnam News Agency reported.
Japan, Vietnam Urge Passage of TPP
Officials from Japan and Vietnam stressed the importance of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) last week and urged the other 10 TPP countries to approve the trade deal, according to international media.
Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe urged his parliament to take up the trade deal. Vietnam, which is pushing a more robust economic relationship with the United States, is also ready to pass the agreement.
Vietnam to Expand Overloaded Tan Son Nhat Airport under New Plan
The Vietnamese government is working to expand the Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City to receive more than twice the passengers in the next 10 years as existing facilities have been strained by rapid traffic growth, according to VnExpress.
The city government has been asked to work with the ministries of transport, defense and natural resources on how to scale up the airport’s confined space by 21 hectares to the east, taking over land now controlled by the defense ministry.
Lines to be Drawn for Foreign-owned Housing
The Ministry of Construction stated that the Law on Housing of 2014 dedicates Chapter 9 to define and regulate home ownership by foreign citizens and organizations.
According to the law, foreign citizens and organizations are allowed to buy, lease, gift and inherit commercial housings, including apartment buildings and detached houses in housing projects, except when these housings affect national security.
Far Eastern Air to Run Chartered Flights to Vietnam's Danang
Taipei-based Far Eastern Air Transport (FAT) will start to run chartered flights destined for Danang in Vietnam, and Angkor Wat, the most popular tourist destination in Cambodia, in the next few months, the carrier announced Tuesday.
The planned chartered flight services from Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport to Danang will begin Oct. 8, with one flight every five days, FAT said.

Vietnam Finally Taxes Uber
Vietnam’s Ministry of Finance has issued new rules ordering the Netherlands-based ride-hailing service provider Uber, which has been accused of providing transport services in Vietnam without paying taxes for two years, to declare and pay taxes, after lengthy legal discussions.
The new regulations set a value added tax rate of 3% on Uber International Services Holding B.V.’s revenue and a 2% corporate income tax rate.
Vietnam Steel Import Rises 27.3% to 12.6 Million Tons in 8 Months
Vietnam spent $5.3 billion to import 12.6 million tons of steel products in the first eight months of this year, up 2.1% in value and 27.3% in volume year-on-year, mostly from China, Japan, South Korea and Taiwan, according to the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
