The development of new-style agricultural co-operatives is a breakthrough to enhance agricultural restructuring and increase sustainable income for farmers.

The statement was made by Politburo member and President of Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee (VFFCC) Nguyen Thien Nhan during his working session with Vinh Phuc provincial Party Committee on March 18 after visiting Nhan Ly and Tho Tang co-operatives in Binh Xuyen and Vinh Tuong Districts, respectively.
He asked the co-operatives to promote agricultural production in line with the market’s demand in order to bring highest economic efficiency for farmers, the localities and the country.
It is very essential to clarify key products of the nation, each region and locality to improve their competitiveness, meeting the demand of big market, said the VFF leader.
VFF President Nhan emphasised that the necessity of active communication of the 2012 Law on Co-operatives among farmers’ associations and co-operatives at all levels in the province.
In addition, the localities should organise training courses for leaders and members of the co-operatives to raise their awareness of the role of new-style co-operatives, he said.
The VFF leader urged the province to research a programme on building new-style co-operatives, focusing on developing brands and improving the quality of products.
Currently, Vinh Phuc has more than 650 co-operatives, including 230 in agricultural sector and 421 non-agricultural ones. So far, 253 local co-operatives have transfered their operations under the 2012 Law on Co-operatives.
